03MoSi2 U element 6/12
MoSi2 heating element 6/12, U type
U-shaped molybdenum disilicide elements with a 6 mm heating zone and 12 mm terminals. Grade, Le, Lu and the centre distance a decide the replacement; we confirm them with you before anything is quoted.
Written as6/12 × Le × Lu × a

What to send
- Part number, if readable
- Grade marked on the element
- Le, Lu and centre distance a
- Shape: straight U or bent
- Elements per furnace and wiring
- Furnace model and a photo next to a ruler
“6/12” alone is not enough
6/12 only gives the two diameters. Le, Lu and especially the centre distance a decide whether an element goes into your furnace. Small laboratory furnaces also use the smaller 3/6 and 4/9 sizes – see MoSi2 4/9 and 3/6.

How we check this element
Send
The furnace model and a photo of the old element, or its part number. Dimensions if you can measure.
We check and confirm the spec
We check the dimensions and reply in writing with the size line we read, any missing value, and whether we can supply it.
You confirm the configuration
Size, number of elements per set and, for SiC rods, how they are grouped by resistance.
Production and shipping
Production and shipping are arranged for the confirmed configuration; the quote covers that element and quantity.
Questions buyers ask
What does 6/12 mean on a MoSi2 heating element?
It is d/c: a 6 mm heating-zone diameter and a 12 mm terminal diameter. On its own it does not identify an element: 6/12 elements differ in grade, heating length Le, terminal length Lu and centre distance a.
Why does the centre distance matter so much?
The legs of a U element pass through holes or slots in the furnace roof or wall. Leg centre distance is measured centre to centre (a for MoSi2, A for SiC U rods), and it differs between furnaces even when the diameters are the same: a 6/12 element, for example, comes with different centre distances. A few millimetres decide whether the element goes in, so we always ask for it if it is missing.
Can one MoSi2 element be replaced on its own?
Usually yes: unlike SiC, MoSi2 resistance changes very little with age, and element handbooks state that a failed element can be replaced without changing the others in the same circuit. Some dental furnace manuals still ask for all elements to be changed together – follow your manual.
Which grade do I need?
Take it from the marking on the old element or from the furnace documentation. If you are not sure, send the furnace model and a photo.
